Dregol is a browser hijacker which means that it will make changes to the Internet browsers that you are using to view web pages. It is a potentially unwanted program that is certainly irritating and can be dangerous (see below).
With Dregol installed on your computer it will change the settings in your Internet browsers. It will change your home page usually to dregol.com. It can even modify a new tab page to bring up the same website or another that they will receive revenue from.
The inbuilt search functionality of your browsers will also change. A lot of browsers use Google for this but Dregol will change this to dregol.com. The creators of Dregol classify it as a breakthrough in search technology but it does not provide any value whatsoever.
It is also likely that Dregol will redirect you to web pages that you do not want to visit. These are usually pages that have something to sell or want you to sign up for something using your email address. Dregol will also present you with a number of unwanted ads as well.
The Dregol search page has a similar design to Google to try and fool users. This tells you everything that you need to know about this program. If a web page has to trick you that it is actually another web page then avoid it at all costs.
Dregol is a program that you need to install on your computer for it to function properly. You will often see it included as part of a bundle with other free software such as PDF creators, download managers, video streaming applications and video recording applications.
One of the most common free downloads that Dregol is bundled with is VPlay. If you download any free software then do not install it unless there is a “custom” install option. You can then choose not to install Dregol from there.
Some people claim that Dregol installed on their computer without them knowing anything about it. This could be because they did not select the custom install option but it could also mean that the free software did not provide this option and installed it automatically.
Any program that can take control of your Internet browser is potentially harmful. You can end up redirecting to websites that can cause threats and the serving of ads will certainly clog up your resources and your Internet bandwidth to slow everything down.
It is not worth taking a risk with Dregol. It may be installing all kinds of other harmful programs on your computer without your knowledge. If you have Dregol on your computer you need to uninstall it properly. If you don’t then it will keep reinstalling itself which is very irritating.
